. and mccain inappropriate political attack and gave us the horrible optics of he and lindsey graham as old white establishment folks wrongly and repeatedly attacking a younger black women and moments when they went strongly blue. >> jon: and claims that mccain went on a witch hunt and tarring the ambassador in the press. that's quite a loaded word. >> so many words that he can say that for some reason i can't say. next time we hear the usual suspects in the review and denouncing rush limbo, remember, they were stone cold silent most likely so far on all of this race baiting going on on the rice-mccain issue. >> jon: what about the real issues what are the real issues that the media should be raising here? >> this has been an indictment not just of the politicians who make these charges and remember, this is where it started because congressional black caucus representatives made the charge that senator mccain was racist, but, it's also an indictment of a totally incurious press. i mean, where are most reporters on important questions, issues of fact like what happened in benghazi, what hap

$3500 more on their taxes. republican senator lindsey graham says it's a possibility. >> i think we're going over the cliff. it's pretty clear to me they've made a political calculation. >> blaming democrats for not doing enough to meet republicans halfway. >> the president plans when it comes to entitlement reform, this quite frankly a joke. >> reporter: with little more than fingerpointing getting done in dc wall street is getting wary. stocks inched higher last week but many businesses are holding off investment decisions hoping congress manages to strike a deal and pull back from the brink, jeff. >> jeff: anna werner, thank you. >> with superstorm sandy not quite five weeks behind them, the governors of new jersey and new york are asking for nearly $80 billion in federal aid. many distressed homeowners thought they were already covered by federal flood insurance. but now as michelle miller stills us, they're being told think again. >> reporter: roman and mar yain-- marianna bediner staten island home was flooded by 11 feet of water when sandy struck. >> how high did the water co

. >> jon: she knew that was bull (bleep) at the time. what would a john mccain or lindsey graham say about a woman like that's qualifications for secretary of state? >> to attack her personally is way over the line because she is our face and voice to the world and you're not doing any american any good by sending her off with such labels. >> but i think it's very clear that condoleezza rice is a person of integrity. and yes, i see this -- some lingering bitterness over a very tough campaign. i hope it dissipates soon. >> jon: oh, i'm sure it will. what kind of crotchety "grand torinoish" old (bleep) would be able to get over a simple campaign loss? it's unimaginable. (laughter) so why is john mccain doing this? (cheers and applause) well, the congressional black caucus representative marcia fudge-- that's right, you heard me-- (laughter) marcia. (laughter) actually, congresswoman fudge is one of our nation's most hardworking and i can only assume delicious congress people. (laughter) she had a theory about ambassador rice. >> any time something goes wrong they pick on women and minorities

and with leadership as mr. lindsey is doing and with the staff and on going commitment from the technology companies who now number 350, and i am probably short on that ron. it's probably more than that. companies that signed up to be partners in sf city. it's about their success but it's also about our success in being partners with them. that's how i want to continue managing the city. it's the private public partnerships fulfilling the prormzs for the neighborhoods, making sure there are in roads and connectors and real life examples of people transforming their lives with these opportunities. this is what sf success is about. it's about coming back. it's about what the giants are doing on the field. it's our success to be shared with everybody so i am happy to make this announcement of tech sf. we are not only doing the training but doing the placement and making sure people in the midcareers, whether coming back from the military they have the opportunity for the sill sets and get directly into it. we have a commitment from the companies at tech sf they're going to use them as their p

. lindsey, called process. this is the first time today that we are hearing that we are moving from a dr into a conditional use authorization. that by itself requires neighborhood notification is that correct? >> that is correct. >> has this neighborhood notification been issued to all the people with a sufficient amount of time? i would like to ask, please do not participate in my discussion with planning staff here. the reason why i'm asking is we had a holiday and we're moving back into holidays. for me it comes as a big surprise for a change in cu. i am very surprised. i kind of don't have a sense that the type of dialogue we normally encourage in the cu between an applicant and the neighborhood has been done to the extent that it answers those kinds of questions. for example, the issue about the solar panels. they are 11' above the additional floor we're adding. that is a significantly taller building because we all know that solar panels are very significant and they are not very good to look at. to be very honest,, as much as item interested to energy conversations, these sola

closed doors on capitol hill but her critics, like senator lindsey graham, were unrelenting. >> bottom line, i'm more disturbed now than i was before that the explanation about how four americans died in benghazi by ambassador rice, i think does not do justice to the reality at the time, and in hindsight, clearly was completely wrong. >> reporter: last month, the president defended rice with a rare flash of public anger. >> when they go after the u.n. ambassador, apparently because they think she's an easy target, then they've got a problem with me. >> reporter: but today, in a phone conversation with the president, rice bowed out. >> i didn't want to see a confirmation process that was very prolonged, very politicized, very distracting, and very disruptive. >> reporter: president obama accepted her withdrawal and said her decision demonstrates the strength of her character and an admirable commitment to rise above the politics of the moment to put our national interests first. >>> just as the highest tides of the year reached the bay area today, the so-called king tides swallowed up b

worst, not its best. >> charles, score one for john mccain and instagram. -- the lindsey graham. >> the issue is not susan rice. the issue is that the administration understood that benghazi is a multiple scandal could why was there no security? no one was answered -- no one has answered that. and all these contradictory stories about the video after everybody knew there or is n a vide ere e the scdals here. for the administration, they were lucky because the press is not interested in this. the only thing that would have revived the store and kept the scandal going would have been at had she had hearings. she would have had to give her story, the one she gave on the talk shows. obviously, it was false from 8 i -- from a to z, and diverted or deliberate. -- eerednto orelibate. the benghazi story would have lived. if she is not the nominee, the story would go away, and they do not want to be dogged by this scandal for months and months, and it would have started with confirmation hearings. >> she was a good soldier. she did sunday shows -- >> that will teach her. >> she stepped u

lindsey graham said he would vote for a revenue increase including a tax hike, but he doesn't like it. >> hikes are part of the solution driven by the president but he's going to get tax rate hikes. to my republican colleagues, if we can protect 99% of the americans from a tax hike, that is not a tax increase in my books. >> if there's no deal on new year's day, households between $50,000 and $75,000 will see an increase of $2,399. meanwhile households with $5 money,0 $00,000 to 1 mill could see an crease of $3900. >>> overseas an attack on americans in afghanistan. police officers, over 50 have been killed by police and soldiers this year. >>> in syria a british-based human rights group said over 60 people were killed when there was an attack on a backry. yesterday's air strike was an apparent retaliation for new rebel offensive. elizabeth palmer visited the town in southern syria that's alive with assad regime. >> reporter: conflict has engulfed syria over the past 21 months from one end of the country to the other, but so far it's barely touched the town in southern syria near the

to compromise. >> senator lindsey graham was "meet the press this morning. >> we are one law away from solving this problem. this problem runs deep and wide. i live in south carolina and chuck lives in new york. i understand how he was brought up. maybe he tries to understand how i was rabrought up. people where i live i have been christmas shopping have been coming up to me, please don't let the government take my guns away. >> how realistic do you think that is? >> chuck is my boss. anything chuck says absolutely 100%. >> who said there wasn't politics on the show today? >> it's a rhetorical question because president obama himself has mentioned on the streets of chicago you need one set of gun rules and in wyoming maybe it is something else. i think we have seen that kind of regionalization of laws. connecticut had an assault weapons ban that didn't prevent this tragedy from happening and didn't outlaw the kind of gun you would want to be outlawed for that kind of tragedy. i don't know that the federal government will be able to slice and dice. it will be very difficult and very close if th

of getting america offer the cliff? senator lindsey graham is telling the president, time to man up. >> the hits keep on coming. >> you may be shocked, you may be debris. some of you be happy, but when you hear this you will definitely have an opinion. >> obama wants to go over the cliff. let me rephrase that. if we go over the cliff, he won't care. >> how about manning up here, mr. president? >> at some point either you'll go over the cliff or find some kind of dramatic concession to the president. >> he's been to pennsylvania. tomorrow he's going to detroit. it's now time to governor. the election is over. he's a small guy. he's afraid of his own party. >> fiscal cliff negotiations proving once again that obama is never worried about trying to fix the problem. >> how about manning up here, mr. president. >> all he's trying to do is fix the blame. >> the president won. he wants to prove he can dominate. >> 15 auto workers fired are back on tle job tonight. >> hey, guys, hate to be a buzzkill, but shouldn't you guys be building cars? don't you guys work out at the chrysler factory?

really just have lindsey graham over there shouting a little bit. >> even that is just -- speaking of lindsey graham, let's play it. even he's being careful in what he says. >> the game you're playing is small ball. you're talking about raising rates on the top 2% and run the government for 11 days. just got re-elected. how about doing something big that is not liberal. how about doing something that is bipartisan. every idea he has is a liberal idea that drowns us in debt. how about manning up here, mr. president. >> well, i keep reminding republicans on this is that the white house politically, they can't be the ones proposing major retitlement reforms because the base of the party will eat them alive. >> that's why he is recognizing give the 2% possibly on the tax, but that has to come from the republican party, it can't come from within the white house, yet alone a democrat that just overwhelmingly won. >> sure you watch capitol hill as well as anybody here sitting at this table. this david price business the one conservative, tom price, excuse me. david price, tom price is flo

. >> cenk: now look, i'll tell i couldn't this pisses me off. lindsey graham says the same thing. this is not time to be liberal. conservatives say time to be conservatives. we've got a mandate. but not time to be liberal time to be bipartisan. you play small ball. you're not a man. a man agrees with us? why, a man kicks your ass. >> that is not why he wanted to win. it wasn't just about getting elected. that's what lindsey graham and john boehner don't see. they are not leading. they boehner is complaining we're not getting specifics. the republicans gave no specifics and they lost on november 6th. 68% of americans according to a poll released today the wall street journal say the president has the mandate to raise the tax rates and cut en entitlements and spending. >> cenk: people are not approving how boehner is handling this. war on drugs? we have another war here on "the young turks" as we argue about that with a conservative. i'm pumped up. let's see how that goes. >> if all you do is try to find a lease on military solution to the problem a lot of people die and it doesn't

with mccain and i believe lindsey graham and then kelly ayotte and they said after the meeting, we feel worse. >> they said things were not cleared up. another pivotal moment, after the meetings with those senators, who already kind of noted they were opposed to susan rice before the meetings, they came out with more questions. you had a moderate republican in susan collins within days who met with susan rice. she came out saying i'm not sure i can support this nomination if she's nominated. when you have a moderate republican who is a supporter of the president's democratic nominees saying i'm not sure about this, a female senator in susan collins, it was clear the votes were not there for susan rice to be secretary of state. >> thank you very much. >>> mike emanuel, who we were talking to about the john boehner and president obama meeting, there's another piece of news. >> a lot of people on capitol hill are wonder whether the president wanted a fight over the next secretary of state. a lot of republican senators here were saying that essentially he should have the person that he want

of state. and i hate to see her drummed out of there by john mccain and lindsey graham on false charges, number one. and number two, i know everybody says you just have to pick your battles, you know. a lot of people were telling the president, i'm sure, yeah, she would be great but you can't afford to make this your first fight of this -- the end of this year, the beginning of the next year. you've got -- you can't waste your political capital on this. i'm sorry the president decided not to do it. i think he should have fought right down to the finish line with susan rice. i would rather go down in flames fighting for susan rice than give in to john mccain and lindsey graham. >> jennifer: you know, i know you have to pick your battles. i've been in that situation before. i know he's battling over the cliff. we'll talk about that in a second. but it is an interesting series of dominoes that fall here. susan rice does not get secretary of state. obviously john kerry will get that. he's the senator from massac

." the president caved after months of republican attacks led by senators john mccain, lindsey graham and kelly ayotte on u.n. ambassador susan rice focusing on her scripted television appearances following the benghazi tragedy today ambassador rice withdrew her name from consideration to be nominated for secretary of state. in an interview with brian williams, rice pointed to the distraction the republican attacks have caused. >> today i made the decision that it was the best thing for our country for the american people that i not continue to be considered by the president for nomination as secretary of state because i didn't want to see a confirmation process that was very prolonged very politicized, very distracting and very disruptive because there are so many things we need to get done, as a country. and the first several months of the second term president's agenda is really the opportunity to get the crucial things done. we're talking about comprehensive immigration reform balanced deficit reduction, job creation, t

.i.a. operative, and author of "blowing my cover," lindsey great to have you here. >> your cover is totally blown. >> cenk: apparently so, wrote a whole book about it. talk to us about this. what is -- in your experience, in what they taught you back in the day when torture was not you know, standard operating procedure, what is the most effective way of getting information according to, you know conventional witness tom? >> well, ironically, i feel like this dark period in the c.i.a. when we were using enhance the interrogation techniques, which started pretty much coincided when i left the agency, and i'm glad about that, because i think that would have been a moral and ethical straw that breaks the camel's back for me personally and frankly i think a lot of people at the agency. really the most effective means of gathering intelligence is recruiting human sources and in fact, relying on enhanced interrogation techniques kind of makes it harder for operatives overseas. that is that i always felt good about saying, you know, i work for the americans i work for the u.s. government and we're the g
